1957 Mercedes 300 SL Roadster

As you can see from the first photos this was a nicely restored example of a very classic and collectable car. The paint having been done over ten years ago, had some bubbling and odd areas of shrinkage. The owner decided to take the car to metal and fix the source of the problem. With a car of this age it is always interesting to discover what is hidden under the paint. We found tens of pounds of lead covering some very bad bodywork. The rust was under the lead and creeping out just enough to lift the paint. The correct fix is to cut out bad body work and form new sections on the English Wheel. This will be a world class car when we finish so watch the progress as we post new photos.
